YESTERDAY...
We had an interesting journey getting to Mallorca. We arrived at Sky Harbor for our "red eye" on Jetblue only to learn our flight was delayed by 4 hours due to bad weather on the east coast. We were told we  could take a flight to Boston with a connecting flight to JFK departing at our scheduled time...sounds great, right? So we did it. What we didn't know but found out when we arrived in Boston, was that the connecting flight was also delayed and the wait time was the same as if we had stayed in Phoenix. It made the trip here especially long, changing planes four times instead of three, but we survived.

We had a wonderful first day here. We rented our spiffy blue Citroen SUV. That was not simple either, but it's a long story about Mike and Bobby being on one side of the car rental kiosk, still in the secured area, and Gayle and I on the other and airport security not allowing us to re-enter. The rental place was open to both areas, so we could see each other and it all worked out and we were able to rent the car without any trouble.

Here it is:

Now that we had wheels we headed to The Fundacio Pilar i Joan Miro.
My phone died so I didn't get many pictures.

One of several large tapestries.

Next was our guided tour of the Gothic Quarter and the Jewish Call.
Our tour guide's name was Mateo and he was wonderful. He is a native of Mallorca and was very knowledgeable about the history, architecture and customs of the island. I'm cheating now.
I snatch these photos off the internet...remember my phone died.

The interior of the Cathedral Palma de Mallorca.

This cathedral is supposed to have the largest rose window in the world...larger the Notre Dame.
Hmm...well that's what Mateo said, but only if the glass was included in the measuring...huh?
The canopy over the nave and several other architectural elements were designed by Gaudi.

Onward to the our villa.

This is a fabulously beautiful place. I am so fortunate and grateful to be here, in these bucolic surroundings, in this wonderful villa, with good friends. I feel as if I just stepped into a novel.
BONA NIT!

TODAY...BON DIA!
After morning coffee we went on an exploratory walk to see where we were.
Gayle sampling what we hoped were choke cherries.
She didn't die, so I guess they were.

Escargot anyone? Snails were everywhere.

Brilliant Morning Glories

A very late breakfast on our return. L to R Bobby, Gayle and Mike.

The end to a very satisfying beautiful day.
Tomorrow Roman ruins and more exploring the local town.

BONA TARDES!
