Alcudia, Sinue and Cap de Formentor

ALCUDIA

After our long hot hike, we decide to have dinner out in the near-by city of Alcudia. This takes us time as our two navigators, Mike and Bobby, don't always agree with our GPS, or each other. It's all in good fun, but sometimes I miss the turn or go the wrong way, causing many more discussions on how to get us back on course.
Alcudia is a popular place with the Germans and it is crowed tonight.
A little history:
The Romans were in this area starting in 123 BC and founded the city of Pollentia which was used as a military guard against invaders due to it's proximity to the Port of Pollenca and the Bay of what is now Alcudia. It was attacked by pirates and the Vandals and was finally abandoned and left in ruins. Eventual with the invasion of the Moors a new city was established and called Alcudia; Arabic for "on the hill".
During the "reconquista" a new part of the city was built using some of the old Roman walls. Many of the homes and shops today still share portions of these 14th century walls.

Searching for just the right place to eat.

Conferencing...map, GPS and Bobby's Iphone app.

They find us the perfect place to eat!

Sumptuous conejo! (rabbit).
I've developed a taste for it since Figueres, my last trip to Spain, and this is even better!

Somehow we resist this desert, but we are such nice 'Americanos", they give us all a delicious appertif.

BONA NIT!

NEXT DAY - THE TOWN OF SINUE FOR THE MARKET
BON DIA!

Lots of cheese!

They have so much fresh produce. We love shopping like this and will miss it!

Beautiful colors.

It is a warm day, we're done and we head for a bodega...
This is for you Cal. I finally taste our beloved Mahou again!

After shopping, we decided to drive to Cap Formentor, the northern most tip of the island of Mallorca. This drive takes us on a narrow road, winding through the Tramuntana Mountains.
In 1928 an Argentine named Alan Diehl bought a portion of the peninsula and built an exclusive resort. This is where Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier spent their honeymoon. The Dalai Lama has also stayed here as well as Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and F. Scott Fitzgerald. And that's where we're headed.

The road.

View from the road of the turquoise waters around Mallorca.

Early vacationers.

They allow us to walk right onto the grounds of the resort. We are overwhelmed by the beauty.

They grow their own veggies!

Gayle on the private beach. The water was crystal clear.

We have lost Mike, so we must find him and head for home.
It's hard to leave such a beautiful place!

Tomorrow we ride bikes in the Nature Preserve.

BONA NIT!
